Sustainability
At Jala Jala, sustainability isn’t a marketing exercise. It’s a responsibility to people, to place, and to the ingredients we choose to work with.
Our approach is practical, respectful, and intentional. We focus on doing things properly, not perfectly, and improving as we grow.
Ethical Sourcing & Place of Provenance
Where ingredients come from matters.
We source our chocolate and inclusions from trusted suppliers who prioritise quality, transparency, and ethical practices. This means understanding not just what we use, but how and where it’s produced.
We place strong value on provenance — respecting the origins of ingredients and the systems that bring them to us. From cacao to native ingredients, sourcing decisions are made with care, balancing quality, ethics, and long-term sustainability.
This ensures the chocolate we make is something we’re proud to put our name on — and something our customers can feel confident gifting and enjoying.
Cultural Partnerships & Respectful Use of Native Ingredients
Native Australian ingredients are not a trend. They carry history, knowledge, and connection to Country.
At Jala Jala, we are intentional about how native ingredients are used. Respect for cultural knowledge and land is central to our decision-making — from flavour development through to storytelling.
We prioritise partnerships with First Nations-owned businesses wherever possible and remain mindful that using native ingredients comes with responsibility, not entitlement.
Our goal is not to over-explain or commercialise culture, but to work respectfully within it — letting ingredients speak for themselves.
Community Impact
Jala Jala is proudly 100% First Nations female-owned, and community impact is woven into how we operate.
We believe small businesses play an important role in supporting broader systems of change — whether that’s through who we partner with, who we amplify, or where we choose to invest our time and resources.
By supporting First Nations suppliers, makers, and collaborators, we contribute to a more inclusive and representative food industry — one that values skill, story, and ownership.
Impact doesn’t always need to be loud to be meaningful.
Sustainability in Practice
Sustainability shows up in the small, everyday decisions.
We actively work to minimise waste across production and packaging where possible, while balancing the realities of food safety and product integrity. Packaging choices are considered carefully, with an ongoing focus on reducing unnecessary materials and improving our footprint over time.
We don’t claim to have it all solved — but we are committed to continual improvement as the business grows.
Cacao Trace & Responsible Chocolate Production
The chocolate we use is sourced through suppliers who support responsible cacao programs, including Cacao Trace.
Cacao Trace focuses on:
- Fair wages for cocoa farmers
- Improved working conditions
- Sustainable farming practices
- Long-term investment back into cacao-growing communities
This means the people behind the chocolate are recognised and supported — not hidden at the end of a supply chain.
For us, great chocolate isn’t just about flavour. It’s about fairness, transparency, and respect from start to finish.
A Considered Approach
Sustainability at Jala Jala is about intention, not perfection.
We’re committed to growing responsibly, listening closely, and making choices that align with our values — now and into the future.
Because doing things properly matters.
